Competing directly with Amazon

  • July 17, 2012
Reading time: < 1 minutes

Changes coming to Amazon’s API mean that sellers who use repricing software, like SellerEngine Plus and Sellery will no longer have access to certain types of data, including Seller ID. This means that you won’t be able to tell when Amazon is one of the sellers you’re competing against.

There is some good news though. From our research, Amazon does show up as a seller in the list of offers retrieved by the API. Here’s what we know about Amazon listings:

  • The fulfillment channel is Amazon (duh!)
  • They have 98-100% positive feedbackA performance rating on a scale of 1 to ... More over the past 365 days
  • Their items’ conditionProducts can only be listed on Amazon if... More is always new
  • They have between 100,000 and 500,000 lifetime ratings

Based on the results of our research, there are very few sellers that fit this profile. That makes it easier to identify (with a high degree of certainty) when an item is being offered by Amazon.

We think this will end up being very valuable data as we integrate it into a future version of Sellery and Profit Bandit. You’ll not only be aware of the times when Amazon is a seller, but you’ll also be known when other mega-sellers are part of your competition.

If there’s anything you’d like to know about the PAPI, changes to the data being made available or anything else, I’d love to write about it here. Please leave a comment here or find us on Twitter, @SellerEngine.
