This is a very helpful illustration of how the sales rank for an item that sells less frequently can swing wildly while the rank for a steady seller holds steady.

Speaking for the team behind the Amazon seller, Wigglish (http://goo.gl/CGN6g), we’ve observed that the price at which an item sells also influences its rank. An item listed for $6 that we sell a few times a week will have a numerically higher (less favorable) rank than one we sell less often, but for which the price is much higher, say $60. We haven’t systematically analyzed the effect, but would be interested in knowing if this can be derived from analysis.

That’s an interesting observation. I’ll check with our Services team and see if we have any data on sales price vs. Sales Rank.
