Weekly news round-up aug 24 2012

  • August 24, 2012
Reading time: < 1 minutes

This week in Amazon news, we’ll be looking at Amazon’s attempts to curb counterfeiting, learn about the growing costs of Prime and see how Amazon is investing in California.

Amazon Prime Subscribers are Costing Amazon Money – Starting this year, every order from an Amazon Prime subscriber is costing Amazon money. This is due, in part, to the 45% increase in UPS shipping rates from the time when Prime was introduced. What will Amazon do? At some point, they’ll have to make a change, but what will it be?

Amazon’s Anti-Counterfeiting Efforts Take a Step Forward – As I mentioned recently, there’s been a crackdown on counterfeit DVDs on Amazon. Now a California court has ruled that Amazon can continue its own efforts to curb piracy without always giving in to the demands of manufacturers. As a seller, do you worry about selling counterfeit items? What do you think Amazon should do to combat piracy?

Amazon Plans Investments and Jobs for California – As part of the upcoming sales tax collection in California (starting September 15th), Amazon will be increasing its physical presence in California. In June, Amazon leased an 83,000 square foot building in San Francisco. That’s in addition to a 1,000,000 square foot fulfillment center that’s planned for Stanislaus County next year that will create as many as 1,500 new jobs. Pretty exciting!

Plus, don’t forget, Profit Bandit 4.0 for iOS is now available in the iTunes App Store. And Profit Bandit 5.3 is available on Google Play. Don’t forget: you must have a Pro Merchant account to use Profit Bandit.
