Sunday surprises

  • May 13, 2014
Reading time: 2 minutes

Do you remember back in November when we told you that Amazon teamed up with USPS to deliver packages on Sunday for customers in LA and New York?

Well the time has come to expand this service to more areas as promised last year.

Keep reading to learn more.

The expanded service comes as part of a 5-year contract with the USPS. I believe that Sunday delivery will eventually extend to all major US cities and suburbs for Amazon Prime members. This means that before you know it, you’ll be able to order as late as Friday and receive your packages on Sunday.

Imagine you forgot about an important birthday/anniversary/celebration. No longer will you have to rush out to the store and settle for what’s in-stock. Instead you’ll be able to choose from millions and millions of items on Amazon.com.

Currently, the products most commonly delivered on Sunday are newborn apparel, books and toys. This is interesting to me because they are “essentials” for parents, the people who may not want to leave the house with a bunch of kids in tow to go to the store on Sundays.

This will benefit the USPS as well as Amazon since the USPS is trying to fix their financial problems and guaranteed income (and jobs for postal carriers) is a good thing for them.

On the map below, you’ll see the cities with Sunday delivery highlighted in red. I’ve also added the cities with at least one FBA fulfillment center in green.

These are the cities where customers can now have their packages delivered on Sunday:

  • Austin, Texas
  • Cincinnati, Ohio
  • College Station, Texas
  • Columbus, Ohio
  • Dallas, Texas
  • Houston, Texas
  • Indianapolis, Indiana
  • Los Angeles, California
  • Lexington, Kentucky
  • Louisville, Kentucky
  • New Orleans, Louisiana
  • New York, NY
  • Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
  • Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • Shreveport, Louisiana
  • Waco, Texas

Any guesses what cities will get this service next?
