Coming august 31st, changes to Amazon’s api

  • August 7, 2012
Reading time: 2 minutes

Recently, we’ve been contacting our users to let them know how they will be affected by the upcoming changes to Amazon’s API used by all 3rd-party software developers, including SellerEngine.

Today, I’m sharing this message publicly, to increase awareness of these upcoming changes and to make sure that all Amazon sellers, not just our users, are aware of what will be happening happening:

On August 31st, Amazon will be making changes to the data that is available to all 3rd-party software tools. We are required to implement them in order to comply with Amazon’s Terms of Service.

Unfortunately, this means that we will no longer have access to all of the data that is currently available.

The data we’re losing includes:

  • Seller Identity – We won’t be able to identify specific sellers. This includes no longer being able to tell when Amazon is the seller of an item, how much they’re selling it for or how many they have in stock.
  • Featured Merchant Status – In the same vein, we’ll no longer be able to base pricing rules and competition filters on your competition’s featured merchant status.
  • Star Rating and Quantity – We won’t be able to leverage a seller’s star rating or their in-stock quantity when creating rules and strategies.

However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. We anticipate that the new method Amazon uses to share data with us will allow us to reprice your items faster than in the past.

Please note that this is intended as a guide for the biggest changes that will be happening as a result of the retirement of the PA-API.

We want everyone to know that our software will be ready and we’ll make sure that you’ll be ready, too.

As always, if you have any questions or would like to know more about how Sellery, SellerEngine Plus and Profit Bandit will make use of Amazon’s MWS API, leave a comment here, or get in touch with us on Twitter or Facebook.

Amazon warned us of thease changes almost a year ago. Why is seller engine waiting till the last day to put the changes into effect. Other software options have been using the new MWS for some time now.

    Hi,

We’ve been working behind the scenes, testing these changes for awhile now before we rolled things out to our users.

If you feel that you need more personalized help in getting your SellerEngine Plus or Sellery account ready for these changes, please let us know and we’d love to set up a call and talk to you.
