  • July 21, 2014
Reading time: 2 minutes

Soon, you’ll be able to create custom data fields for your inventory items in Sellery.

Custom Data Fields

Keep reading to learn more how you’ll be able to use them to tag items, set MAP prices and much more.

Why Custom Data Fields?

Right out of the proverbial box, Sellery includes dozens of pieces of information about every in your inventory. From your cost of goods sold, to its warehouse location to the item’s title, ASIN and much more, Sellery has the data you need to get started repricing.

But you’re one of a kind and so is your business. That’s why we’ll be introducing the ability create custom data fields to store the information that makes your inventory unique. In this article, we’ll talk about how you’ll create new data fields, how they work and some ideas for how to use them.

Creating & Using Custom Data Fields

When you first create a new custom field, you’ll have to make an important decision. Will you be storing text data or something related to the item’s price?

The reason this is so important is that if you’re creating a currency field, it can be used when setting limits or adjusting your item’s price when creating Pricing Rules in Sellery.

All custom fields, both text and currency fields can be used in smart lists and custom exports, but only currency fields can be used when adjusting price.

And of course, any field you create can be shown as one of the columns on the inventory grid.

Ideas for Using Your Custom Fields

What data will you be storing in custom fields and how will you use them?

Here are some of the best ideas we’ve heard so far:

  • MAP Pricing – Previously, many Sellery users had been storing their MAP (minimum advertised price) values in the reference price field. Now, they’ll be able to create a custom MAP field and store your MAP price there!
  • Unique Ceiling & Floor Prices – Even if you’re not governed by MAP pricing, there may be items that you want to have a specific ceiling or floor price. Just create a new currency data field and enter your desired price. Then use this new field as a limit when creating pricing rules.
  • Product Tags – Do you use a customized, internal system to track and segment your inventory? If so, you may have been using Sellery’s warehouse field to store the data that makes your system work. But soon you’ll be able to create a data field (or more than one) to store the data that matters to you.

How will you use them? Let us know!
