Weekly news round-up for april 13th

It’s Friday the 13th! And it’s time to see what the Internet has been saying about Amazon. This week there have been stories about Amazon’s (and customers’) commitment to Amazon Prime (great news for you FBA sellers out there!), updates to the Amazon Trade In Program and more!

Trade in Your Used CDs for Gift Cards – Starting earlier this week, compact discs have been added to the list of items eligible for the Amazon Trade in Program. If you’re not familiar with it, this program lets you trade in used books, DVDs, iPods, Kindles and other non-media items for Amazon Gift cards. And now you can send in your CDs, too! The amount you’ll get for each disc isn’t available yet, but experts predict it will be $1-3 for most discs. If you’re a media seller, are you worried about losing sales? Or do you think that all those people with extra Amazon credit to burn will be good for business?

Why Amazon Prime is the Future– This article compares Amazon (and the introduction of Amazon Prime) to other retail revolutionaries like Sears and Roebuck and Wal-Mart. Since 2009, Amazon Prime users have more than doubled and now total over 5 million! And that’s only 4% of Amazon’s total customer base! There’s still so much more room for growth and the service shows no signs of slowing down. Looks like good times ahead for FBA sellers!

Barnes & Noble Introduces Lighted e-ink Nook – I LOVE my Kindle but the one thing I wish it had was an integrated light. But I guess the Nook beat them to the punch! From the pictures in this article, I think it looks fantastic. And I guess there is good news, Amazon recently acquired a Finnish company, Oy Midilis, known for its light technology. And there have been rumors of frontlit Kindle prototypes.

Bezos Recieves Lower Pay than Many Tech CEOs – $1.68 million is a truckload of money to you and me (well at least it is to me) but when it comes to the CEOs of most big technology companies, it’s pocket change. Tim Cook of Apple received $378 million in 2011 and Oracle’s Larry Ellison pulled in $77.6 million. Steve Ballmer of Microsoft, by comparison was one of the few lower than Jeff Bezos at $1.38 million.

Well that’s it for the week. I hope everyone has a lucky Friday the 13th. If you come across any Amazon news you’d like to see featured, feel free to email me, leave a comment here or find me on Twitter, @SellerEngine.
