Weekly news round-up july 6 2012

The week of July 4th is usually a slow time for new (especially here in the US) so I didn’t have high hopes for much in the way of Amazon news. But just this morning there was an exciting announcement about a smartphone possibly coming from Amazon. Plus a couple other stories that I’m pretty excited about.

Amazon looking to enter the smartphone game – Nothing is set in stone yet, but sources say that Amazon has been acquiring smartphone patents and working with Foxconn to build the phone. With an established app store and a huge media library maybe Amazon will be able to make a splash in what is a difficult market. What do you think?

Did Publishers and Apple collude against Amazon? – This article from the New Yorker has some interesting insights into the possibility of price fixing by Apple and traditional book publishers. If you’re interested in the nitty gritty of the legal fight going on, this article provides a pretty good overview of what’s going on.

Amazon among eight retailers with double-digit sales growth over past two years  – Quick, before you read the article, try to guess all 8. I managed to get 3 (including Amazon). The other ones were pretty surprising, at least to me!

New SellerEngine Website – Now I know this isn’t quite national news, but we’re pretty excited about it! We spent a lot of time on this and are really proud of how it came out!
