News Round-up

This week in Amazon news, Jeff Bezos goes on an adventure, Goodreads gets acquired and Ozon.ru, the Russian Amazon, is growing fast. Keep reading to learn the whole story!

Jeff Bezos Expeditions recover Apollo 11 rockets – Apparently Jeff Bezos is using some of his fortune to fund awesome expeditions, including this one that recovered some of the leftover pieces from the Apollo 11 mission that splashed down into the Atlantic. Lots of amazing pictures and a really cool story!

The “Amazon of Russsia” grows by 55% – Ozon.ru is Russia’s equivalent to Amazon.com and its revenue was $250 million in 2012, up nearly 60%. And its looking to expand! And more interesting is that due to the unpredictability (probably a nice way of putting it) of the Russian postal service, Ozon has their own delivery service.

Amazon acquires Goodreads – Yesterday, Goodreads, a popular social reading site, announced that they were joining the Amazon family. They’ve been growing fast, with 16 million registered users adding 22 million books a month, up from 7 million two years ago. User response has been mixed, with many worrying that they’ll lose the community that Goodreads has built over the years. But many are excited about the possibility of Goodreads and Kindle integration.
