Weekly Amazon News Round-Up

This week in Amazon news, we take a look at how Country Music Award winners received a sales bump, Amazon’s new Smile program and Amazon’s rapidly growing sales and stock prices. Keep reading to find out more.

CMA Winners See Boost in Amazon Sales – The annual Country Music Awards were this week and the winners are seeing huge increases in sales on Amazon. The Sales Rank of Taylor Swift’s album Red increased by 74%. Even more impressive is Kacey Musgraves, who won New Artist of the year. Her album’s Sales Rank is up nearly 1000%. Remember that current events like this can be great opportunities to increase prices on hot items.

Sales are Colossal, Shares are Soaring. All Amazon is missing is Profit – This great article from the New York Times is a few weeks old, but definitely worth reading! It’s a great look at Amazon’s lack of profits, high share prices and constantly growing sales. Of course, the one thing that it is missing is the answer to the question, when will investors expect Amazon to become profitable.

Amazon Smile Donates Sales to Charities – Start shopping on smile.Amazon.com and .5% of your purchases will be donated to the charity of your choice. It’s the exact same Amazon.com you’re used to shopping on, but with the benefit of helping out a great cause. The Feral Cat Coalition is even one of their options and that’s one of our favorite charities here at SellerEngine!

No Sales, No Profit? No Problem for Amazon – I usually wouldn’t mention two articles about sales and profits in one news update, but this comes to us from the MIT Technology Review. It’s an interesting look at how Amazon’s decisions today are shaping the future of retail.
