Used offers now in the Buy Box

Recently Amazon began offering customers the choice of new or used offers in the Buy Box. What does this change look like and what does it mean for you?

Keep reading to learn more.

New vs. Used Buy Box

Below you’ll see how the Buy Box looks by default (on the left) and then how it looks with a used offer selected, on the right.

It’s clear that the Buy Box pushes customers towards buying items in new condition. By my math, the Buy Used area at the bottom takes up less than 9% of the entire Buy Box.

But, it does give customers the option of buying used, right from the Buy Box, which is a huge change.

How Will Buyers React?

Only time will tell, but I believe that the used Buy Box will take some time to really catch on with customers. Here’s my logic:

The used Buy Box will be the most valuable on books (and other items) that are only available in used condition and previously didn’t have a Buy Box at all. In this situation, I think that buyers will take advantage of the used Buy Box, just because it’s faster and easier than going to the offers page to compare.
